a. KCCIS designates one period weekly for PSHE, to be held in the first
period every Wednesday. There will be 32 PSHE periods in
2023-2024: 13 in Term 1, 12 in Term 2, 7 in Term 3.
b. Each homeroom (Y7 to Y11) will make a presentation either to be shared on
Google Drive or in a whole-school assembly depending on the situation .
We expect to see presentations from all 12 classes from Year 7 to
Year 11. Some classes may decide to work on the same topic ( i.e. to do the
presentation together). Different formats are encouraged provided
that the presentations reflect and deliver meaningful learning experience
c. A maximum of two lessons should be used for the preparation of
the assembly presentation.
d. It is understandable that homeroom teachers will take up PSHE class time
for preparation of other important events in the school. It is recommended
that:
One lesson be used for the Christmas Carnival preparation.
one/two lessons be used for the end of school year activity preparation.
One lesson be used for exam revisions (last Wednesday before exams).
e. Discovery Week presentation when applicable
f. There shall be about 14 PSHE in-class lessons:
a - ( b+ c + d + e)
Topics and materials are stated in the above attached Schemes of
Work.
g. Core topics, as listed in the homepage, are to be incorporated into
teachings when deemed appropriate. Four textbooks about values
education are available in the library.
h. It is optional for homeroom teachers to co-plan and co-teach with other
teachers, and perhaps joining the year groups together. It is advisable as it
would help generate even more ideas in class.
i. It is important for students to reflect on IB Learner Profile and/or link their
topics to career choices.
IMPORTANT: The relevance of PSHE to university / career counseling
From Year 7 onwards, homeroom teachers will discuss various topics
related to subject choices and careers. The school counselor will explore
these topics with students in class, so as to let students share their
aspirations. By the end of Year 9, students should have taken some
challenging courses to help establish their academic credentials. Besides
improving on their mathematics and critical thinking skills, it is
recommended that students should have started (if they still have not),
from Year 9 onwards or earlier, to learn another language other than
Chinese and English. Apart from PSHE, their involvement in extra curricular
activities would no doubt be helpful to their personal and social
development, and exploration of their interest areas. It is important
that students carefully decide the I/GCSE subjects for Y10 and Y11, as this
could affect the opportunities open to them after their I/GCSE.
Students should aim at making good choices: ideally subjects that they
enjoy thus mostly likely are good at. Students should look up info about
the courses from teachers and the school counsellor, especially during
the options evening.
